Preparing to Paint
Proper preparation is 90 percent of a professional paint job. Many new products have been introduced in recent years to reduce the amount of preparation needed, but elbow grease has not become obsolete. One of the more difficult jobs we have as painters is to envision how the completed project will look with various levels of preparation. We also have to read the customer's expectations and come up with some sort of labor and materials budget for the job. Often the money is not there to do the kinds of preparation that we would prefer. In other cases, owners of valuable older properties may want to do the extensive preparation necessary to preserve and showcase their home or business. The time needed to correctly wash, sand, mask, caulk, and patch a surface can be very difficult to estimate. Access to professional tools and supplies can make the difference between an attractive finish within budget or a complete disaster that eats up weeks of time. The products we sell at Painter's Toolbox simplify the whole preparation process, save time, and provide the foundation for a beautiful finish.
