Wash trim with TSP and rinse with water before painting. Allow to dry, scrape off loose paint, feather edges with 60 or 80 grit sandpaper, and prime bare areas. Fill holes with spackle, painter’s putty, or caulk. Spackle will need to be sanded and primed when dry. Caulk cracks between the siding and the trim to keep bugs and water out. Allow caulk to “set-up” before painting. Use a brush or a mini-roller and a brush to paint trim. A combo of a mini-roller, one gallon grid, two inch brush and a Swivel-Ez will make short work of eaves. Some eaves can be rolled from the ground with an extension pole. Traditionally, glossy paints are used to accent and protect window, door, and decorative trim.
